    I cannot reconcile that statement with the observation that people try out new tools like Snapchat and Telegram seemingly all the time.

    I think "power-user" here is a way of saying "willing to use (needlessly) complicated software".

    It's very hard to make software which is easy to use. People are more complicated than machines, and most engineers prefer solving machine problems, not people problems.

    Plus, most projects fail. Only a handful become big.
