Emacs is a cult.

Vim is worth learning because it is truly lightweight and you will find it installed on a bare-boned Unix machine. Say you are going to boot the machine up in single user mode and smash /etc/passwd, knowing vi will help with that.

Real developers use Jetbrains IDEs for real work though.
