While I am inclined to agree with them and I'm amused that they didn't cite Elon's family's emerald mine[1], I think the article and headline overstate the case - there certainly are examples that are closer to the self-made end of the spectrum, even if they are more rare, such as Sheldon Adelson or (arguably) Steve Jobs.
