Show HN: Revive – find negative trends in your Google Analytics

  • I built this with @smalter. This is the first app I've ever built! I'm excited to share it here and get feedback.

I’ve worked as a content marketing writer for almost five years. I’ve always enjoyed the creative side of writing but the analytical side of it has always grinded my gears.

Before falling into marketing I was a scientist for 15 years. Worked in neuroscience and neuroengineering on such eclectic subjects as sheep facial recognition and brain-machine interfaces. Found my way into content after taking on more writing for my lab, then technical writing as a freelancer, before teaming up with @smalter at Animalz.

As a field, content is way behind even other areas of marketing in terms of analyzing and investigating what works and what doesn’t. GA numbers are treated just as something to dump in a spreadsheet each month rather than something to be investigated.

Now I’m combining the two and starting to build analytical tools to help content people understand better what is happening with what they produce. Not just presenting them data, but telling them what it means. Kinda thinking about this as ‘opinionated analytics.’

The first thing I’ve built is Revive. We want to help people find stuff they’ve done that isn’t performing as well as it once does but still has legs with a little bit of effort. Should be a low lift way for people to get more traffic.

The app looks at the organic traffic for each piece of content over the past year, and highlights those that have a negative trend over the year, a definite recent dip, and has lost a decent percentage of traffic in this time.

Be great to hear what you think and any feedback!
