I don't just see the Ioannidis study as a result of corona virus haste, but as a result of mass communication about science in particular.
There was a lot of buzz about this study on twitter, and in recent times it appears like more and more scientific results are opened up to the public even when there's barely any validation or double-checking of the results.
Pretty much anything that is opened up to public attention turns into a circus, transparency and the 'democratication' of science I think are very, very overrated. Just like congressional hearings in the US in front of TV cameras turn political discourse into a farce I feel the way people are dragging science into mass online discourse will only do the same.
