The better way to estimate Covid-19 deaths either directly due to the virus or due to indirect effects like elective procedures being put off is to look at excess deaths. In Aprils excess deaths were running 3x that of normal of which 1x was attributed to Covid and the other 1x was either undetected or indirect causes.
