As a British citizen I think that was a terrible idea!
While the US has a great deal to offer, Brittan would be worse place from such a union. Food standards, welfare, employment rights, medical care and politics are just some of the things that are better in the UK; maybe not perfect but definitely better. Many of the "freedoms" in the US are actually worse than here or in Europe!
I can't think of any reasons why American citizens would disagree with this, but I'm curious what British/Canadian/Australian/New Zealand citizens would think of this.
