How to Befriend Crows

  • A topic near and dear to my heart. Our shared office has a balcony and I spotted two crows some weeks ago. I've been feeding them every morning, calling them Hugin and Munin :)

  • My neighborhood crows may not be friends exactly but they’re friendly. I do occasionally leave out a bit of food, but well before that they began to recognize me as I trained my pup not to chase them. We moved from a city that didn’t have many to a city (Seattle) famous for them when she was about a year old, so it took some time to get her familiar with recognizing that some birds are different, but she definitely learned. And the crows appreciate the effort, even going so far as to give us passage when they see we have no way to go around them.

My 11 year old daughter has a phobia of birds which I have a hard time to take seriously given she also has a phobia of dogs, cats, insects or little bits of black lint that might be an insect. This fear both makes me unable to follow this plan for befriending crows, and really makes me want to do it.
