I like the idea and the work they put into this, but I would personally never replicate this implementation. I never know a persons circumstances, state of mind or willingness to harm. They know where I live. I believe in engineering solutions that guide people into the right path no pun intended. In this case I would have a fence.

The only thing I might do different is to implement a force of mobile Garden Gnomes to converge on people and be generally annoying. That way the neighborhood kids have something to mess with and talk about.
You could double down and throw in squirt guns too for the laughs. God help the world when I have more time on my hands than sense. I will be the Grumpy Old Man of the block.
I'd need that time too to iron out the kinks in target detection and rules of engagement, which would have to change over time to keep the kiddos guessing and having to get creative.
It'd be like Ender's Game, without the pressing moral quandaries. Probably need really understanding and good neighbors too. That probably constrains the implementation more than anything else.
