Are we still upset about Net Neutrality?

  • In the US we managed to scare ISPs away from the worst behaviors although peering extortion is still going on. In Europe it's more of an active topic since telcos are trying to force a similar sender-pays bandwidth extortion model.

  • I would be upset if we didn't have it. Not caring about it would only let ISP leverage their market position.

I am not a liberal progressive and yet I think detractors of net neutrality only stand out with their ignorance about why general access to utilities like the internet should not be leveraged against those that seek it.

  • Even a very conservative economic analysis can give the result that allowing network operators to give precedence to certain entities will distort the market, and essentially gatekeep innovation.

    This isn't a liberal-progressive issue at all. It's a free market - mercantilist issue.

  • /r/keepournetfree mod here. Conservatives benefit from net neutrality too - I wouldn’t blame politics as much as general fatigue.
