Ask HN: What is something you realize that is non obvious

  • It is obvious to me that computers are insecure, and the reasons for that are foundational. It has proven exceptionally hard to convey this fact to others understand in anything other than a close personal discussion.

    What's missing?, Capabilities based security.[1] People see the term, and instantly think they know what I mean, but don't really.

    Somehow I managed to pick up the idea of systems wide thinking, that keeps the big picture in mind. I see how suburban sprawl is completely unsustainable, because of infrastructure that is nowhere near dense enough to be affordable, for example. Trading away farmland for lawns is a bad side effect.

    I tend to think of things in systems, most people think of the one artifact they interact with or own.
