Google Infrastructure Manager: Provision Resources with Terraform

  • Interesting timing.

Wasn't the license change on terraform supposed to avoid exactly this?

Seems like this is getting uglier and uglier for HashiCorp. Not only it sparked a fork but it didn't keep big cloud from competing on the hosted use case

  • Those folks are just sick; instead of being their equivalent of CloudFormation (which I stupidly hoped they had finally fixed) their "Enable Infrastructure Manager" page <https://cloud.google.com/infrastructure-manager/docs/enable-...> has "create a Project" link followed by a `gcloud` command

orly? Create a Project, you say? Can I do that with Infrastructure Manager? Assign a billing-id to that new Project with Infrastructure Manager? Enable that service with Infrastructure Manager?

    Just mind boggling

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if Google aims to replace Google Deployment Manager with this, which never really got any traction. Azure has ARM, AWA has Cloudformation. Google betting big on terraform will be interesting considering the recent change to BSL.

If Google decides to back OpenTF that would be a huge deal.
