I find it hard to maintain my focus, it updates too quickly to finish reading a comment before the next one pushes it out of place.

Because it is “shit” I assumed you would filter to downvotes comments :-)
Firehose describes it well, some people are wordy and type a lot (I'm guilty) so maybe a comment character limit might improve readability?
