Ask HN: What do you use to download videos?

  • I pay for YouTube premium and Nebula which both let me download videos. I use it to save videos for when I travel. I also sometimes live off grid with a Starlink and I'll download videos so I can turn Starlink off to save power.

  • Literally Using ffmpeg to download m3u8 videos these days. Whenever they need a header i proxy that url via nginx

  • Yt-dlp ftw!

  • An app called ClipGrab works well enough for me:

    https://clipgrab.org

  • ytp-dl for everything

  • Synology’s download manager - which is an amalgamation of tools, but for video it’s ytp-dl

    It works great.
