I've had some luck with (1) recording an "essay" via the VoiceMemos app, (2) transcribing with whisper.cpp, then (3) editing with GPT or by-hand.
Warning: I've found that vocal dictation uses a TOTALLY different part of my brain. It's not necessarily worse -- just different.
