Wayback Machine Is Down

  • Wayback Machine is back! Thanks to Archive.org! I also want to thank the people who wrote here today. Please support Archive.org. It is true that the Wayback Machine is unique. I confess that I cried at the message on X.com about the legal dispute they are facing. I finished my doctoral studies thanks to Archive.org. Likewise, I now conduct postdoctoral research that requires the unique services that Archive.org offers and on which I depend to survive. Please, let's move the world in the direction of access to knowledge, let's support the initiatives of Archive.org.

  • It’s incredible that such a critical “service” to the Internet, like history books for humans, is not backed by all states and companies. Without Archive.org and WayBack machine we are at the mercy of disappearing servers, domains, intentional removals… that’s what is happening. It is like burning books. Supporting it is a must but i fear that will not be enough.

  • What choice do we have? I'm in the middle of an investigation. This changes everything. Please bring back Wayback Machine. Archive.org, come back improved, whole and free.

  • Interestingly, this HN post is currently 3rd on Google for the query "wayback machine".

  • It still down at the moment. Is there any details on the outage somewhere else?

  • That is a bad news !! I hope wayback machine back to work a again.

    > Sorry, but a brief power outage in one of our datacenters, and then environmental factors kicking in.. means the @waybackmachine has been down and http://archive.org has been wobbling. We are working on it. Sorry. More as it happens in this thread.
