Show HN: Weird Books to Read

  • I just took a look into "How to Make People Feel Awkward at Work", and it reads like a Buzzfeed article.

Per-page just a stupid thing like

"Sing along under your breath to whatever song is playing in your headphones.

[photo of woman in office scenario showing a thumbs-up]

Remember, when you have your headphones on, that means no one else can hear you."

We might as well flag this post.

  • Some of those are funny, but "The subtle art of not giving a fuck" isn't really weird. I enjoyed it but it's pretty bogstandard retelling of "How to win friends and influence people" with a couple of the other canonical self help books mixed in, it just also has swear words.

  • I was thinking of books like the anarchist's cookbook and how to be a hitman for hire like we read when growing up on the early internet.

  • This is suspiciously low quality for the top of HN.

That said, I do recommend "How to Good-bye Depression: If You Constrict Anus 100 Times Everyday. Malarkey? Or Effective Way?"

  • I wish I could find a list for books more like "The stray shopping carts of eastern north america" but less like the just {$wtf/shock value title}.

  • I'd hoped for more strange fiction novels. There's a Robert Rankin book on the list, I do enjoy his particular odd style.

  • The magic of self-publishing

  • Perfect for an "oddities" row on the bookshelf. Very fun

  • Build a better life by stealing office supplies, by Scott Adams.

  • Hah, I love this website. Thanks for sharing!
