I tend to think this self-esteem is important for the homeostasis of our wellbeing and people who are (too) brutally honest about themselves, who have issues with body dysphoria are (duh) unhappy and live worse lives.
I certainly recall nasty things but it feels true (a truism?) that I retain better memories of happy times, and tend to minimise retention of bad times. Because it makes me happy into the future, not sad: If my life is bound by being un-hot, ugly, and a trail of tears lie behind me, thats a bit shit innit?
So yea: Good stats, and a good test, of something which IS IN OUR OWN BENEFIT.
For the sake of humanity, continue to lie to yourself about how hot you are. But get a decent face scrub and wash behind your ears too. Doesn't hurt.
