Everything Is Spam on Facebook Unless It Is Paid Post (Or Actual Spam)

  • To be fair to Facebook, the language of these example posts are promotional messages that act and look like advertisements. And it’s not unexpected for Facebook to want you to pay to run something that is essentially an ad on a platform that only gets revenue from paid ads.

    I think this would be different if the author was an individual merely talking about Linux. But each of these flagged messages are quite literally promotional. They want the audience to proactively do something that has value to the organization posting the message.

    It’s not just some individual saying “oh my gosh I finally learned how to do XYZ using awk.” It’s an organization putting out a call for action.
