Some digging thru certificate logs appears to find that something expired Mar 9. Might require an intermediate fix from Google or some app updates.

Wonder if this is just a broken "check for updated firmware" function?

I loved the chromecast when it came out, but I went through several and over time they all just became more laggy and needed to be reset often just to work. It felt like the classic Google experience for me, I had enough.
I just quit on all the options and got an AppleTV, it just works.

Maybe, this whole issue is trending on a 6 year old reddit thread where gen 2 randomly started failing world wide today. Hope we can get a response from google on how to fix this or if they are completely gonna axe the gen 2s.
From NL, both devices uncastable. Any explanation from Google? Or is this covered in the terms of use?
