US Education Department to cut half its staff as Trump eyes its elimination

  • a lot of schools and libraries around the country rely on federal funding to provide services to special groups and at-risk groups, like, for instance, the blind. There are whole classes of people who work on grants to make these things happen. I doubt if states will have the funds to provide these vital services. People often say "well, there was once no department of education" but we also know what used to happen to people with mental illness before state mental hospitals were a thing. Special groups might slip back to simply being not served with zero federal support. I worry a lot about this.
